Nigel Slater unpacks the biology and ecology behind plants often dismissed as weeds, from pavement cracks to gardens. Discover the food, medicinal and folklore stories of nettles, dandelions and daisies, with refreshments included.

Join Nigel Slater for a talk exploring the plants that are often dismissed as weeds, and why they are so successful in the places where they grow. The session looks at the surprising biology and ecology behind common wild plants, from pavement cracks and walls to gardens and other everyday spaces.

The talk also highlights the wider value of these plants, including their medicinal uses, food potential and folklore. Examples mentioned include nettles, dandelions and daisies, showing how familiar species can play useful and interesting roles in both nature and human life.

This is a local group event at Idle Valley Visitor Centre Classroom in Retford, with refreshments included in the admission price. It is suitable for people interested in wildlife, plants and the natural world, and for anyone who wants to look at common species in a different way.
