Get hands-on ward experience in an acute NHS Trust, alongside teaching from education, clinical and specialist staff. Explore vital signs, infection control and safeguarding, then shadow on the wards and meet other young people interested in care. You’ll receive a certificate at the end.

The Nursing Cadetship Programme offers young people an immersive introduction to nursing within an acute NHS Trust. It combines hands-on ward experience with structured teaching delivered by education, clinical and specialist staff, giving participants a practical sense of what working in nursing involves.

Across the week, cadets take part in activities such as hospital tours, infection control, fire safety, safeguarding, vital signs, moving and handling, and shadowing on the wards. The programme is designed to build confidence, improve understanding of nursing roles and support informed career decisions.

Participants also meet other young people interested in caring for people with health needs and receive a certificate at the end of the programme.
