Shadow qualified occupational therapists in clinics and on a medical ward, observing patient treatment and discharge. See how reports and ongoing care are planned, and learn about the equipment used in practice.

This placement offers a shadowing experience in occupational therapy, based in clinics and on a medical ward. Students observe the OT working with patients and get a real insight into the role within an acute hospital setting.

The experience includes discussing the OT’s responsibilities, observing patient treatment and discharge, seeing how reports and ongoing care are planned, and learning about the equipment used in practice. You may also help keep equipment in order and shadow qualified OT staff.

The placement is aimed at post-16 students who can demonstrate a strong interest in occupational therapy and are considering university-level study.
