Inventing the Future is a two-week residential pre-university programme for high-school students designed to ignite entrepreneurial thinking and practical business skills. Students study innovation, business management, accounting, finance, marketing and ethics, learn business modelling and pitching, and take part in the "Inventing the Future Innovation Challenge" to research, design and pitch a business idea.
Classes have a maximum of 15 students and are taught by experienced tutors and guest speakers.
The course runs on the campus of the University of Oxford with accommodation in historic residential colleges (Balliol, St Catherine's, The Queen's, Keble, St Hugh's and St Peter's). The programme includes tuition, accommodation, most meals (breakfast and dinner; lunch provided for under-16s), cultural excursions, talks with guest speakers, a graduation ceremony and a report card.
English language requirement: minimum pre-intermediate (B1).
Practical arrangements include arrival/departure transfer services (staffed pickups at London Heathrow on specified dates with transfers from/to Oxford), guidance on arrival times and luggage, and parent/student notes on budgeting. Optional en-suite room reservation is available for a fee; students are advised to wait for booking confirmation before booking flights.
