Eight virtual modules trace a book from idea to finished product, exploring how editors shape new voices and how design, production, sales, marketing, publicity and rights teams bring titles to readers. Optional tasks build practical skills; the final module covers teamwork and problem-solving.
Discover Publishing with Pan Macmillan is a virtual career insights programme that introduces students to the world of books and the publishing process. It is designed to show how a book moves from an initial idea through to a finished product, and to give a clearer understanding of the different teams involved along the way.
Across eight key modules, participants explore Pan Macmillan’s history and values, how editors find and shape new voices, and how design and production teams create the final book. The programme also looks at sales, marketing, publicity and rights, showing how titles are promoted and distributed to readers around the world.
Learners can also complete optional tasks to deepen their understanding and build practical skills. A final employability skills module supports teamwork, communication and problem-solving, helping students reflect on their strengths and think about how these skills transfer into future study and work.
