Pathways to Law is a free two-year outreach programme run by the Sutton Trust designed to support students heading into Sixth Form/College who are interested in careers in law. The programme provides structured support to access higher education and apprenticeships, including personalised application support, undergraduate mentoring, university taster sessions and curated online resources via Sutton Trust Online.
The programme is free to attend and travel is covered.
Participants take part in monthly employability workshops, insight events with employers, networking with university admissions staff and legal professionals, and an exclusive 3-5 day work experience placement with partner organisations (in-person, hybrid or virtual). The programme also offers an optional residential national conference at the University of Warwick which includes overnight accommodation, lectures, panel sessions and practical workshops such as debating and plea-mitigation sessions at the Inner Temple.
Applicants are asked to enter their postcode to find their nearest programme and should consider commuting distance when selecting a university. The Sutton Trust provides information on bursaries, scholarships and financial aid alongside application support.
Applications are open for the 2025/2026 cycle via the Sutton Trust Pathways application site.
The programme is completely free to participants, including travel costs.
