Research issues, write press releases and see how an MP’s office handles constituent queries during hands-on work experience in local politics. Depending on your age and ability, you could also accompany the MP to meetings or events in the House or constituency.
Paul Holmes offers work experience opportunities to students from his constituency, giving young people a first-hand insight into local politics and the work of an MP’s office. The placement is designed to help students build skills while learning how constituency and parliamentary work is carried out day to day.
Students may get involved in a range of practical tasks, depending on their age and ability. These can include researching issues, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, assisting with office duties, answering queries from constituents by phone or email, and accompanying the MP to meetings or events in the House or in the constituency.
Interested students are invited to contact the office to enquire about work experience.
