Present a production pitch to theatre staff after exploring how a children’s theatre runs across production, marketing, fundraising, creative learning and visitor services, watching current shows and taking part in practical workshops.
Polka Theatre’s Work Experience Week gives students a behind-the-scenes introduction to how a children’s theatre runs. Based at Polka Theatre in Wimbledon, the placement includes time with a range of departments, including Production, Marketing, Fundraising, Creative Learning and Visitor Services.
During the week, participants learn how theatre for children is made and how an arts organisation operates, watch current productions, take part in practical workshops and finish by presenting a production pitch to Polka staff. The programme is designed for students who want to understand the wider world of theatre, not just performance.
Applications are handled through a selection process that includes an application form and a Meet and Greet Day at Polka. Places are limited and there is strong demand, so applicants are encouraged to show relevant experience and explain what they hope to gain from the placement.
The programme is open to Years 11 and 12, with priority given to students who live or study in Merton, Wandsworth or Croydon.
