Want to redesign the city after dark? Join POoR Collective’s Night Routes competition: take a guided night walk, observe where lighting, movement and accessibility fall short, then design safer, more welcoming public spaces to build your portfolio and sharpen urban design skills.

Prize: A winning proposal will be showcased across POoR Collective’s platforms, with selected ideas shared with relevant City stakeholders.

Night Routes: Designing Safer Space is a student competition led by POoR Collective that asks participants to reimagine public space in the City of London after dark. The challenge focuses on how lighting, visibility, movement, accessibility and atmosphere affect how people experience the city at night, with the aim of creating safer, more welcoming places for everyone.

The event begins with a guided night walk through the City of London, where students observe spaces that feel unsafe, uncomfortable or overlooked and identify opportunities for creative intervention. After the walk, participants develop an independent design proposal for one of the locations explored, responding through architecture, public realm design, lighting, landscape, wayfinding or another creative approach.

A winning proposal will be recognised with a prize and shared through POoR Collective’s platforms, helping spotlight ideas that could inform future thinking about safer night-time environments.
