Take on practical, project-based tasks across Front of House, Marketing, Events, Programming and Technical Production, with staff introducing their roles and giving feedback. Learn alongside a small cohort at The Base, Portsmouth Guildhall’s dedicated youth arts space.
Portsmouth Guildhall’s work experience programme gives Year 10-11 students the chance to explore how a busy cultural venue operates behind the scenes. It is designed for school work experience placements and offers a chance to meet staff, ask questions and try out different elements of their jobs without needing to have a fixed career plan.
Across the week, participants take part in a structured programme of practical tasks, activities and conversations with staff from Front of House, Marketing, Events, Programming and Technical Production. Staff introduce their roles, set tasks linked to their work and give feedback, while students develop ideas and share their work with the group.
The placement is run in a cohort model, with around 12-16 students learning together. Most of the week is active and project-based rather than job shadowing. Students are based at The Base, Portsmouth Guildhall’s dedicated youth arts space, and are supported by the Learning & Participation team throughout the week.
