Build practical workplace experience through hospital placements matched to your skills and interests, with job coaches and workplace mentors supporting you to develop independence and confidence. The application process includes a group day with an interview.

Choices College partners with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to offer a supported internship for young adults who want to build confidence, independence and employability in a real workplace. The programme is designed for people with learning difficulties, disabilities and/or Autism, and focuses on helping interns learn new skills while being supported to thrive in a working environment.

The internship is person-centred and individually tailored, with work experience matched to each intern’s skills and interests. Interns can gain practical experience, develop independence skills and build confidence through a range of placements within the hospital trust, with support from a dedicated team of job coaches, workplace mentors, a project co-ordinator and an area manager.

To apply, young people need an active EHCP and must complete an application form. Recruitment usually takes place in late winter or early spring each year, and applicants are invited to a group day that includes an interview so the team can get to know them, discuss areas of interest and understand the skills they can bring.
