Research local issues, draft press releases and help answer constituents’ queries by phone or email in an MP’s office. Depending on your age and ability, you could also accompany the MP to meetings or events in the House or constituency.
This work experience placement offers students from the constituency a chance to see how an MP’s office operates and to gain insight into local politics. It is designed to give young people practical experience of public service work, while also helping them build useful skills such as communication, organisation and teamwork.
Students may be involved in a range of day-to-day tasks, depending on their age and ability. These can include researching issues, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, assisting with office duties, and answering queries from constituents by phone or email.
The placement may also include accompanying the MP to meetings or events in the House or in the constituency.
The opportunity is intended for students who want a closer look at politics and constituency work, and who are keen to contribute to a busy office environment. Interested students should contact the office to enquire about available work experience placements.
