This is a Level 2 Production Chef apprenticeship with The Cod's Scallops based in Nottingham (positions available in West Bridgford and Wollaton). Most of the role is on-the-job learning in a busy fish and chip restaurant and production kitchen: handling and storing ingredients, portioning and presenting food to business standards, preparing a wide range of dishes, stock control, cleaning, and working to food hygiene and safety procedures.
The apprenticeship includes standard workplace duties such as pot wash, unpacking stock and supporting service delivery.
Apprentices will attend college day-release weekly (Provider: NOTTINGHAM COLLEGE - weekly Tuesday sessions at Fletcher's Kitchen) and receive specialist training covering cooking techniques, food safety, allergy management, waste reduction, teamwork, and professional communication. Prior to end-point assessment (EPA) the apprentice must evidence practical cooking skills; the EPAO will select three dishes/methods for a timed assessment during which the employer must provide a 3-hour kitchen slot and ingredients.
The role is full-time (37 hours/week; typical hours Monday-Friday 9:00-17:00 with some flexibility) and offers progression opportunities within the business. The vacancy lists three positions, with a start date of 20 December 2025 and wage information for the first year as stated below.
