Apply NowFancy digging into history in Peru? Join supervised fieldwork around Cusco, work with archaeologists mapping sites, cleaning, classifying artefacts, and running community workshops. Build practical skills, boost uni applications and connect with local culture.
Join Projects Abroad's archaeology project in Peru for a supervised, hands-on experience at archaeological sites in and around Cusco and the Sacred Valley. You’ll work directly with professional archaeologists on activities such as mapping, site cleaning and maintenance, artefact classification, workshops (drawing, registry work, ceramics and weaving), and community outreach days.
The project emphasises learning through presentations and guided fieldwork, giving you practical insight into Incan and pre-Incan history. You will live with a local host family in Cusco, receive three meals a day, and travel to field sites as part of the programme.
Staff organise cultural activities and an organised weekend trip to Machu Picchu. Projects Abroad provides full in-country support, airport pickup, orientation, a project supervisor/mentor, and a certificate on completion.
The project is aimed at high school teenagers (aged 15-18); no prior experience or qualifications are required, and all activities are supervised to prioritise safety and learning. This programme is suitable for students interested in archaeology, history or anthropology who want to gain relevant experience for university applications or personal development.
Opportunities to contribute to heritage preservation and local community projects are integrated into the placement.
