Join Projects Abroad in Peru for a group-based archaeology volunteer project centred in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. You will work alongside professional archaeologists on excavation and conservation tasks at Incan and pre-Incan sites, taking part in mapping, artifact classification, site maintenance and community outreach days.
The project includes presentations and workshops to deepen your knowledge of local history and archaeology, plus organised cultural activities and a weekend trip to Machu Picchu and other nearby sites such as Ollantaytambo. A supervisor/mentor is provided at your placement and local staff offer full induction and ongoing support.
This project is open to anyone aged 18 and over and requires no previous experience or qualifications. Accommodation (host family), three meals per day, airport pickup, in-country transport to placements, training, project equipment and a certificate on completion are included.
Volunteers must arrange and pay for flights, travel/medical insurance and any visa fees. Start dates run during school holidays; you choose a duration and start date via the Projects Abroad website and then enquire to book.
