This Projects Abroad High School Special places teenagers on a Medicine & Public Health internship based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Participants live with host families and work alongside experienced local healthcare professionals to learn basic medical skills and public health practice.
The project is aimed at high school students aged 15-18 and requires a minimum two-week stay.
On placement you will support nursing staff during community outreaches, conduct basic health checks and immunisation drives, and help run educational health campaigns in schools, care centres and community groups. The programme includes 40 volunteer service hours and approximately 5 clinical shadowing hours, with structured training and workshops delivered by local staff.
No prior medical experience is required and staff provide supervision and guidance throughout.
Practical support includes airport pickup, organised transport to placements, meals and accommodation with a host family, and a weekend sightseeing trip in Guadalajara. Projects Abroad provide 24-hour in-country support, safety procedures and a fully researched, risk-assessed programme.
Visa support and advice are offered, though visa costs, flights and travel/medical insurance are not included.
