This High School Special Public Health internship in Cambodia is a supervised, in-person programme for teenagers run by Projects Abroad. Participants are based in Phnom Penh and work in disadvantaged communities alongside other high school students, with full on-site supervision and 24-hour local staff support.
The programme is designed for teenagers looking to gain practical healthcare experience during school holidays.
On placement you will assist medical staff with basic health checks (for example measuring blood pressure and temperature), take part in community outreaches, and help deliver public health awareness campaigns in schools and local communities. You will visit kindergartens, primary schools and care centres, attend supervised hospital visits to learn about the local healthcare system and traditional Khmer medicine, and can expect between 35 and 60 volunteer service hours depending on your chosen dates and duration.
Training and workshops are provided by local staff.
Accommodation, three meals per day, airport pick-up/drop-off, local transport to placements, pre-departure preparation and in-country support are included. Flights, travel/medical insurance and visa costs are not included.
On completion you receive a certification of project completion and access to alumni services. The placement emphasises safety, with a dedicated medical supervisor and Projects Abroad staff available throughout.
