This Study Programme at Cheadle Town FC provides a practical introduction to horticulture and turf management in a local football-ground setting. Learners gain hands-on experience in tasks such as turf and lawn care, weed identification, sowing and planting preparation, container plant care, soil preparation and mulching, watering, soil pH testing, applying fertilisers, aerating turf, scarification, pitch marking and repairing damaged turf.
The programme leads to City & Guilds Level 1 or 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture Skills and includes opportunities to develop English and Maths qualifications (Functional Skills or GCSE). Students receive support from experienced tutors and grounds staff, benefit from smaller class sizes, and may access work-experience placements within sports-ground environments.
