Research local issues, write press releases and support constituency casework as you get a practical introduction to parliamentary and local politics. You may also accompany the MP to a meeting or event at the House of Commons or in the constituency.
Rebecca Smith offers work experience opportunities for students from the constituency who want to gain an insight into local politics. The placement is designed to give young people a practical introduction to parliamentary and constituency work, alongside a chance to build skills that are useful in a range of settings.
During the placement, students may help with a variety of tasks depending on their age and ability. These can include researching issues, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, assisting with office duties, answering queries from constituents by phone or email, and supporting casework.
Students may also have the chance to accompany the MP to a meeting or event in the House of Commons or in the constituency. Anyone interested is asked to contact the office to enquire about work experience.
