Want to play the reels, jigs and hornpipes dancers love? Join Katie Grennan to learn by ear, master style, tempo and bowing, and build a go-to set for feis gigs and sessions.
This online workshop explores some of the most popular Irish dance tunes heard on the feis scene today. Participants will work through a selection of reels, jigs, and hornpipes that are especially useful for musicians who play, or hope to play, for dancers.
The session focuses on the practical details that shape the sound of Irish dance music, including style, tempo, and bowing considerations for fiddlers. Tunes are taught by ear at a comfortable pace, with sheet music available as a learning aid, and practice recordings and sheet music are provided after class.
The workshop is designed to be accessible to newcomers while still offering useful material for more experienced players, and it welcomes all melody instruments.
