Want to solve real science problems and earn a degree? Join Unilever’s R&D Degree Apprenticeship to work on real projects-formulation, packaging, data and lab science-build practical skills, drive sustainability and innovation, and gain industry experience while studying for a BSc.

Unilever's Research & Development Apprenticeships are science-based, structured degree apprenticeship programmes that combine on-the-job experience at Unilever research centres with degree study. Apprentices work on real R&D projects across areas such as formulation, packaging, data science and laboratory science, contributing to product innovation, sustainability and new technology development.

Available Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programmes include Food Professional (BSc, 5 years) based at Colworth Science Park, Data Science (3 years 6 months) at Kingston upon Thames and Colworth, Laboratory Scientist (4 years) at Port Sunlight, and Packaging Professional (BSc, 5 years) at Port Sunlight. Apprentices gain practical experience across different functions while studying for a BSc with university partners.

Entry requirements vary by programme but generally require GCSEs including English and Maths (grade 5+) and three A-levels (or equivalent). Applicants apply via the Unilever Future Careers online application portal and may need to create an account to submit an application.

  • Have GCSEs including English Language and Maths at grade 5 or above.
  • Have or are predicted a minimum of 3 A-levels or equivalent with grades of BBC or above including 2 STEM subjects (general requirement for Level 6 programmes).
  • Data Science specific: minimum of 3 A-levels with BBC including Maths at grade B or above and another STEM subject.
  • Laboratory Scientist specific: 5 GCSEs including English Language and Maths at grade 5 or above and minimum of 3 A-levels (or equivalent) with grades BBB or above including Chemistry and at least one other STEM subject.
