See how a local authority works through an unpaid placement across council departments, and explore different public service roles. Choose a one- or two-week block, a longer placement over a few days each week, or a half- or full-day taster.
Rochdale Borough Council offers unpaid work experience placements across its departments, giving students the chance to see how a local authority works and to explore different kinds of public service roles. It is designed for young people who want an introduction to the workplace and to learn more about council services.
You can request a block placement, an extended placement or a taster day. Block placements usually run every day for 1 or 2 weeks, extended placements take place a few days a week over a longer period, and taster days can be either a half day or a full day.
To request a placement, email WorkExperience@rochdale. gov. uk and say which council departments you are interested in.
The council will send you a short application form to complete and return, then pass your request to the relevant departments for consideration. Placements are not guaranteed, and the council aims to let applicants know whether a placement can be offered within 6 weeks of receiving the request.
Unpaid work experience placements.
