Celebrate Black History 365 with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Body Of People (BOP) Jazz Theatre Company at an in-person event exploring the rich history, influence and legacy of jazz dance. Supported by Wandsworth Council, the programme brings together discussion, live performance and practical participation in a single evening at RAD headquarters in Battersea, London.
The event opens with a talk from Dollie Henry MBE and Paul Jenkins on the origins and evolution of jazz dance, its cultural reach and the ways it continues to shape movement today. This is followed by a live performance from the BOP Company, including work from Daughters of Eve.
Afterwards, attendees can join an optional introductory jazz dance workshop. The session is suitable for ages 8 and above, and offers a welcoming introduction to jazz dance history for families, young people and anyone interested in the art form.
