Hear Air Commodore Bill Tyack explain how he commanded No 51 Squadron and operated the Nimrod R signals intelligence aircraft. Trace airborne SIGINT from the Second World War and Cold War to Rivet Joint, then attend in person at Brooklands Museum Clubhouse in Weybridge.

Air Commodore Bill Tyack CBE FRAeS FRIN gives a talk on No 51 Squadron and airborne signals intelligence (SIGINT), drawing back the curtain on a field that was secret for many years. He focuses on his time commanding No 51 Squadron and explains the capability and operations of the Nimrod R signals intelligence aircraft, with reference to the wider history of airborne SIGINT.

The lecture also places the topic in historical context, covering developments from the Second World War through the Cold War and into the squadron’s later operations with Rivet Joint aircraft. The event is open to all, takes place in person at Brooklands Museum Clubhouse in Weybridge, and certificates of attendance are available on request for C.
