Practise basic skills used by medical staff in a classroom-based two-day hospital programme, meet volunteer patients, ask medical students and resident doctors questions, and hear a talk from a medical school representative.
HOSPEX is a two-day hospital experience programme for students who are considering medical school and want a better sense of what a career in medicine involves. It is designed for Year 12 and 13 students and above, including postgraduate and 18+ applicants.
The programme takes place at Royal Derby Hospital and offers a classroom-based introduction to basic practical skills used by medical staff. Participants also have the chance to interact with volunteer patients, ask questions to medical students and resident doctors, and hear a talk from a medical school representative.
The programme is aimed at people who are seriously intending to apply for medical school and who meet the eligibility criteria.
There are no fixed dates for the work experience, as successful applicants are placed on a waitlist after completing the application form. Under-18 applicants need parental or guardian consent and support from a school or college tutor before they can attend.
