PASANG: In the Shadow of Everest is an award-winning documentary about Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, who became the first Nepali woman to summit Mount Everest. Using archival footage, personal testimonies and family stories, the film explores her determination and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated mountaineering world, including gender discrimination, racial prejudice and wider social barriers.

The screening also highlights the legacy of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s achievement and the impact it had on Nepal’s mountaineering history. It invites audiences to reflect on the barriers women and Indigenous communities continue to face, while celebrating courage, equality and possibility.

The event includes contributions from speakers Dawa Futi Sherpa and Rebecca Stephens, who bring personal, cultural and mountaineering perspectives to the story. Advance booking is required through the Royal Geographical Society website, and the event takes place at the Society’s London venue.
