Write a night-sky blog script and speak with astronomers, or join the Engagement team at the National Maritime Museum. Explore how museum visits, school and family programmes, exhibitions and visitor services work behind the scenes, with practical activities including digital audio recording and CV-writing workshops.

Royal Museums Greenwich offers work experience placements for secondary school students through its Schools Programme. The placements give students a behind-the-scenes look at how a major museum organisation works, with opportunities based either at the Royal Observatory or at the National Maritime Museum.

They are designed to help young people gain insight into visitor-facing work, education programmes and the wider day-to-day running of the sites.

At the Royal Observatory, students learn about astronomy and science communication through activities such as observing school or public sessions, evaluating what works well, writing a blog script about the night sky and speaking with astronomers about their work and careers. At the National Maritime Museum, placements are based in the Engagement team and may include work with schools, family programmes, visitor services, libraries, exhibitions and interpretation, plus practical activities such as digital audio recording and CV-writing workshops.
