Make boats, craft fridge-magnet poems from legal treaties, and explore refugee journeys through interactive games and immersive VR. Join a flash fiction workshop inspired by the Crossings display, with the option to contribute your writing to a chapbook published after the event.

Stories of Small Boats Crossings is a free afternoon of craft and writing workshops at the Queen’s House, inviting visitors to think about how law shapes refugee boat journeys. The event connects contemporary art with questions of migration, borders, uncertainty and decision-making, and encourages participants to respond creatively through making and writing.

Across the afternoon, you can take part in a range of drop-in activities. These include a boat-making workshop, fridge-magnet poetry inspired by the text of important legal treaties, and an SOS MEDITERRANEE stand with interactive games and immersive VR headsets.

The different sessions are designed to be accessible and varied, so visitors can move between making, reading, writing and exploring at their own pace.

There is also a flash fiction workshop for adults and children over 15, where participants can learn to write short fictional pieces inspired by the Crossings display. If they wish, they can contribute their writing to a chapbook published after the event.
