This Level 2 apprenticeship places you in the Royal Navy as an Engineering Technician Communications and Information Systems Specialist (Submariner). You'll work on Vanguard or Astute class submarines and at Navy Command HQ, operating, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing global radio and satellite communications systems while handling highly confidential information.
The role involves hands-on engineering tasks, teamwork in high-pressure environments, and working at sea.
You will combine on-the-job training with formal study through the Maritime Mechanical and Electrical Mechanic (level 2) training course delivered by the Royal Navy. The programme includes learning to read engineering drawings, use hand and power tools, assembly and overhaul of components, testing and diagnostics, confined space procedures, and functional skills in English and maths if required.
The apprenticeship is full-time (40 hours/week, shifts to be confirmed), runs for 3 years, starts 2 June 2026, and has multiple positions available. Benefits include a £5,000 Dolphins bonus when qualified, additional pay for days at sea, and an employer-funded pension.
