This Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship places you in the Royal Navy Submarine Service as a Writer (Submariner). You will work as the HR/administration specialist for a submarine crew, handling personnel administration, legal and financial processes, correspondence and welfare tasks while learning on the job and undertaking specialist training both ashore and at sea.
The role combines operational submarine duties with administration: you will support pay and accounting, personnel management, security and office procedures, and gain experience using IT packages and business systems. Training includes 10 weeks of basic naval training, 16 weeks of specialist training and a further period at HMS Raleigh and the Submarine School; functional skills in English and maths will be provided if required.
Benefits include a salary of £20,400, a £5,000 Dolphins bonus, additional at-sea pay when fully qualified, an excellent pension, six weeks' paid holiday, and free medical and dental care. The apprenticeship is 1 year 6 months, 40 hours a week, with start date Tuesday 2 June 2026 at Navy Command HQ, Portsmouth.
