Trace resveratrol - from red grapes, wine and peanuts - into research on preventing bowel cancer, then explore COLO-PREVENT’s trial testing whether resveratrol, aspirin and metformin can help protect against bowel polyps. Join the post-talk discussion and audience Q&A in Edinburgh or online.
This Royal Society of Edinburgh event explores how cancer prevention might develop in the future, focusing on the potential of natural compounds found in foods and existing medicines. The discussion looks at why proving preventive treatments in clinical trials can be challenging, and how researchers are working to overcome those barriers.
The talk follows the journey of resveratrol, a compound found in red grapes, wine and peanuts, and its possible role in preventing bowel cancer. It also examines COLO-PREVENT, a major UK trial platform testing whether resveratrol, aspirin and metformin can help protect people from developing bowel polyps, alongside laboratory analysis of clinical samples to understand how these therapies work.
The event includes a post-talk discussion with Ms Alison Culpan FRSE and the event chair, followed by an audience Q&A. It is offered in hybrid format, so attendees can join either in person at the Royal Society of Edinburgh in Edinburgh or online.
