Royal Veterinary College (RVC)
Want hands-on vet experience and a uni boost? Join RVC’s free five-day residential Sutton Trust Summer School to handle animals, learn clinical skills and meet vets across campus-build skills, explore vet pathways and strengthen your application.
The RVC Sutton Trust Summer School is a free, five-day residential programme aimed at current Year 12 (England/Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland) students from under-represented backgrounds who are interested in Veterinary Medicine. Students live on the Hawkshead Campus and spend time at both Hawkshead (Hertfordshire) and the Camden Campus (London).
The programme includes animal handling placements, practical clinical skills sessions, lectures across a range of veterinary topics, group work and a small research project.
Students are paired with Student Ambassador mentors and receive dedicated sessions on the veterinary application process to support academic and professional development. The programme balances academic activities with a social programme (sporting events, cooking, quizzes) to help students build peer networks and broader skills.
The programme has capacity for 50 pupils and is designed to provide authentic insight into life at the RVC and support applications to veterinary degree pathways.
All costs for the week, including travel, accommodation, food and equipment, are covered by the Sutton Trust and the RVC. Applicants will be assessed against achieved/predicted grades and RVC entry requirements and selection is prioritised for students meeting widening participation criteria.
