The Russell-Cotes House is a museum and art gallery in Bournemouth offering a small number of in-person work experience placements aimed at GCSE and A-level students who are interested in careers in arts and heritage. Because staffing capacity is limited the museum cannot accommodate every request; shortlisted applicants will be invited for an informal chat to ensure the placement is suitable for both parties.
The museum also accepts enquiries from University and Further Education students for bespoke placements; these are limited and should include details of hours, length, preferred dates and the skills or experience the student wishes to develop. Separate student project proposals (photoshoots, film projects, exhibitions, events and interviews) are considered against criteria including equipment, staffing and the benefit to the Russell-Cotes charity.
Practical guidelines and restrictions apply for projects: certain equipment (tripods, lights) is restricted during opening hours, chemicals and sprays are not permitted, no real flowers/food/drink in the historic house, models must not sit/lean on collection furniture and a risk assessment is required. Applicants should complete the relevant form and email it to the museum as instructed.
