Explore council services before choosing an area that matches your interests and career goals. A placement can build practical skills, boost your CV and give you experience of the public sector, plus a reference for future opportunities.

Salford City Council offers work experience through its Step into Salford programme, giving local people the chance to gain practical skills, build confidence and prepare for future careers. Placements are designed to help participants develop new knowledge, strengthen existing skills, improve their CVs and employability, and gain a reference for future opportunities.

They also offer experience of working within the public sector and the chance to contribute to the local community.

The council welcomes expressions of interest from school students in Years 10 to 13, college students and care leavers, with university students and graduates also sometimes considered where placement capacity allows. All applications must be made through the central request form, and the council asks applicants to explore its services first so they can explain which area best matches their interests and career goals.

Placements are subject to service availability and a risk assessment, and the council aims to respond within 10 working days.
