Two runners-up: each receive £200 to use towards geoscience education at the school and a certificate.

The Schools Geology Challenge is an annual national competition run by The Geological Society of London that gives A level / Advanced Higher students the chance to research and present a geoscience topic. Teams prepare an online presentation for the Qualifiers by following the competition brief; submissions are judged on scientific content and accuracy, communication, and creativity.

The 10 highest-scoring entries are invited to the Final.

Finalists attend an in-person problem-solving challenge at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, where teams tackle a geology-themed real-world problem, demonstrate teamwork and analytical skills, and present to a panel of judges. Travel reimbursement of up to £700 is available for finalists.

The competition offers prizes including a trophy, school funds (£500 for winners, £200 for runners-up), student memberships and certificates.

Teachers can download a PowerPoint to promote the competition and the full competition brief and rules are provided on The Geological Society website. Entries must be submitted via the online entry form and follow the competition brief; one entry per team is permitted.

Closing date for entries is 30 January 2026 and the Final takes place on 19 March 2026.
