This is a Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship based at Sigma-Aldrich's (Merck) oligo manufacturing site in Haverhill. You will work on the production of nucleic acids in a regulated, lean production environment, supporting systems and equipment, preparing reagents and buffers, operating automated synthesisers, performing downstream chemical reactions and maintaining accurate production records.

Training is delivered partly on-the-job and partly through West Suffolk College where you will study the Science Manufacturing Technician 2023 (Level 3) / Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science. The apprenticeship lasts 2 years and starts on Monday 1 December 2025.

Typical working hours are Monday-Friday (37 hours 30 minutes per week) with college attendance (Tuesday) during term time; shift start options include 07:00-15:00, 08:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00.

Applicants must hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (grade 4-9). The role is site-based at Homefield Road, Haverhill (CB9 8QP). Successful apprentices who complete the programme to a high standard may be considered for a permanent position at the end of the two-year apprenticeship.

Pay & Benefits

£14,722.50 to £23,809.50, depending on your age. National Minimum Wage. On successful completion of year 1 a salary increase will be applied.
