Curious how science shapes the real world? Join University of Derby's Science Outreach taster day at Kedles to explore hands-on labs across biology, forensics, environment and more, build practical skills, connect with academics and boost your uni/career choices.

The University of Derby Science Outreach programme offers a range of subject-specific activities to inspire school and college students in science-related fields. Activities are available both on campus and remotely and cover Biology, Biomedical Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sustainability, Forensic Science, Human Biology and Zoology, with the ability to deliver related sessions in Computing, Engineering, Psychology and Sport and Exercise Science.

Taster Days, which are based at Kedleston Road, Derby, include curriculum-aligned subject sessions led by academic staff, plus campus tours and Information, Advice and Guidance talks. These taster days are flexible to suit visiting groups and are explicitly targeted at Year 12 and Year 13 students.

The team also deliver masterclasses and talks which can be scheduled to suit schools and colleges and aligned to curriculum needs.

The department is opening a new Bioscience Superlab in 2025 to enhance practical and research-focused experiences. Teacher CPD is also offered, including facility tours and practical advice. Schools and colleges interested in booking or arranging bespoke activity should contact the team via the booking form or email provided.
