The Scientist (Biological Scientist) Degree Apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University combines academic learning with workplace practice to prepare apprentices for roles in the bioscience industry. The programme covers microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, diagnostics, environmental monitoring, cell biology and applied bioscience techniques, with taught modules across four years and workplace-applied projects.
Delivery is primarily tutor-supported online study, complemented by a two-day university induction, an annual week-long skills bootcamp on the central Manchester campus and shorter bootcamps during the first year. Apprentices are supported by university skills coaches and workplace supervisors and will apply learning directly to employer-relevant projects.
Successful apprentices are awarded a BSc (Hons) in Bioscience and the Level 6 Scientist Degree Apprenticeship; graduates may apply for membership of the Royal Society of Biology. The programme is employer-sponsored (funding comes via employers or public apprenticeship funding).
Entry requires meeting programme requirements, the right to work and funding eligibility in the UK, and a minimum of 104 UCAS points (A-level BCC) or equivalent.
