Scoring Music for Film is a two-day creative music workshop from Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, taking place at the University of Huddersfield. It is designed for young people who want to explore how sound and music can be used to create original film scores in a hands-on, practical setting.
Participants experiment with folly objects alongside electronic and acoustic instruments, then write and record music that is matched to short film clips. The workshop is suitable for beginners, with no previous experience required, and all equipment is provided.
It is part of hcmf//’s School’s Out! summer holiday workshops and includes a hot lunch for every participant.

Scoring Music for Film
Location
- Open to young people in school years 7-11.
- No previous experience is required.
- Free places are available for recipients of free school meals; advance booking is required.
- A small number of paid places are available for other high school pupils.
Tickets are £13.50 for most participants. Ten places on each programme are free of charge for young people in receipt of free school meals. All places include a hot lunch from the University of Huddersfield on-campus canteen.
