Apply NowCurious how 15th‑century printing meets modern small‑press poetry? Join Senate House Library to explore Caxton's techniques, handle rare examples and build your own zine using simple bookmaking — cut, glue and design in a hands‑on two‑hour workshop that boosts your creative and portfolio skills.
Join Senate House Library for a hands-on zine-making workshop that pairs early printed poetry with contemporary small press poetry. Participants will learn about processes used by William Caxton when producing incunabula and examine examples of his work alongside modern small press publications.
Across a two-hour session, attendees will study the design and printing techniques of 15th-century texts, compare them with contemporary small press poetry, and use scissors, glue and simple bookmaking techniques to produce an original zine responding to these two moments in print history. The session is led by Senate House's Printer in Residence, Becca Drake, and aims to provide a relaxed creative space for students to explore print history and small press culture.
This in-person workshop is practical and discussion-led, suitable for students interested in poetry, book arts, print history and creative publishing. Materials and guided instruction are provided during the session.
