Severn Trent's Young Person Work Experience is a four-day programme giving 14-18 year olds hands-on exposure to work in the water industry. Participants work on real projects alongside staff in areas such as engineering, data science and HR, and can take part in placements that are in-person, out in the field, or virtual.
The placement aims to build communication, teamwork, problem solving, self-management and listening skills to support future education and employment.
This work experience intake is being run as part of a research trial commissioned by the Youth Futures Foundation and delivered by Ipsos. All applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be included in the study and randomly allocated either to take part in a placement or to a comparison group.
Participants will be asked to complete up to three short surveys (before, during and after) and may be invited to take part in a voluntary 45-minute interview. If under 16, parental/caregiver consent must be provided as part of the application.
Applications require you to rank up to three placement choices (only your top three applications will be considered). The programme encourages a wide range of applicants and offers placements across Severn Trent sites; the research trial findings will be used to improve future work experience programmes.
