Walk Bankside with expert guides to uncover its criminal past and Shakespeare’s links to early modern London, including why he was summoned to court three times. Explore stories of duels, violence and rival playwrights, then finish at Guildhall; your ticket also includes exhibition entry.

Explore the streets around Shakespeare’s Globe on a guided walk through Bankside, uncovering the area’s criminal past and its links to Shakespeare and early modern London. Led by expert guides, the tour looks at why Shakespeare was summoned to court three times and how violence, duels and even murder shaped the world of rival actors and playwrights such as Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson.

The experience begins in the main foyer of Shakespeare’s Globe and ends at Guildhall. Tickets include entry to the exhibition, and the tour goes ahead in all weather conditions, so visitors should dress appropriately.

The tour is delivered in English and does not include access into the Globe Theatre. Luggage cannot be stored, and the content includes violent and darker themes, so it may not be suitable for younger children.
