Get first-hand insight into NHS working life, with exposure to different healthcare roles and specialities. You’ll see how your skills and interests could translate into a healthcare setting, while following infection-control rules and PPE requirements.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals’ work experience placements are designed to give students and other prospective applicants a realistic insight into working life in an NHS organisation. Placements aim to show how skills, abilities and interests can translate into a healthcare setting, while also helping participants build confidence, understand the workplace and strengthen future university, apprenticeship or job applications.

Participants can expect first-hand experience of the workplace, exposure to different roles and specialities, and opportunities to develop transferable skills. The page also highlights that work experience is useful at any stage of a career, and that the experience can help people understand both the environment and the expectations of working in healthcare.

There are some eligibility limits: the minimum age is 15, although certain clinical areas require participants to be 17 or 18. Placements are restricted to Nottinghamshire residents or learners attending education in Nottinghamshire.

Applicants must also follow the placement’s dress code, infection prevention and control rules, and PPE requirements. Applications must be made through the work experience portal at least eight weeks before the planned start date.
