Research policy and casework, attend debates and meetings, then join an MP at her weekly advice surgery. This one-week placement splits your time between Westminster and Morden.
Siobhain McDonagh MP offers around twenty work experience placements each year for residents of Mitcham and Morden. The placement is designed to give young people an insight into local politics and to help them build useful skills in a parliamentary environment.
Students can support a range of office and constituency activities, including policy research, understanding casework, attending debates and meetings, and accompanying Siobhain to her weekly advice surgery. Placements are normally based around parliamentary work and public-facing constituency activity.
Work experience is generally one week long and is split between the Westminster office and the constituency office in Morden, although a shorter period can sometimes be offered if requested. Places are allocated in order of application, only one student is taken per week, and applicants are encouraged to apply early and give alternative dates if possible.
A security check for the Parliamentary estate takes around four weeks, so short-notice applications cannot be accepted.
Offered throughout the year
