Get a yearly payment as a young carer in Scotland, with the freedom to spend it on what you need or want. If you’re 16 to 19 and meet the caring-hours criteria, you could use it for clothes, driving lessons or a holiday.

Young Carer Grant is a yearly payment for young carers in Scotland. It is designed to provide financial support that young people can use however they choose, whether that is for clothes, driving lessons, a holiday, or something else they need or want.

To be eligible, you must be aged 16 to 19 and have been caring for one, two or three people for an average of 16 hours a week for at least the last three months. You can only get the grant once a year, and you must wait a full year between applications.

You also cannot receive it if you are already getting Carer Support Payment or Carer's Allowance.

Applications can be made online, by phone or by post. When you apply, you may need your National Insurance number, bank details and details of the person or people you care for. If someone has legal power to make decisions for you, they must apply on your behalf and can only do so by phone or post.
