Apply NowCurious how society shapes your world? Explore sociological ideas at Dartmouth — join hands-on classes, run social experiments, build critical thinking and uni-ready skills, and connect with academics and peers over two immersive weeks.
Sociology & Everyday Life is a two-week, university-level summer program at Dartmouth College designed for inquisitive high school students (ages 14–17) who want to explore sociological concepts and apply them to everyday phenomena. Through interactive lectures, discussions, reflective journaling, and practical social experiments, students learn about culture, inequality, power, identity, and the influence of media and popular culture.
Participants take part in small, hands-on classes led by experienced instructors (course instructor: Armani Beck, PhD), engage in field trips and supervised activities, and receive detailed performance reports and instructor feedback. The program culminates in a Course Completion Certificate and a Letter of Recognition from the Summer Institute.
Residential and day options are offered on Dartmouth's campus in Hanover, New Hampshire, with a structured daily schedule and 24/7 on-site supervision. International students receive visa support, optional airport shuttle arrangements, and an international registration fee (non-refundable) which covers visa support, transportation to/from campus, and international medical/health insurance.
This course is aimed at high-achieving high school students preparing for selective university applications and seeking enrichment in the humanities and social sciences.
