Join the BBC as a Software Engineering Degree Apprentice based at Pacific Quay, Glasgow. This Level 6 degree apprenticeship is a fixed-term, full-time role lasting 46 months where you will be placed in a front-end, back-end or full-stack team.

You will learn on the job using agile practices, pair programming, automated testing and quality control, and contribute to software that supports BBC TV, audio and online services.

The scheme combines practical workplace experience with a theoretical element delivered by a Scottish university; training may involve travel to locations across the UK. Apprentices receive industry-leading training through the BBC Academy, a dedicated Team Manager and Scheme Specialist, and support for career development and employability at the end of the apprenticeship.

Salary is listed at £22,950 per year and a range of BBC employee benefits apply.

  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026.
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship.
  • Be legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation.
  • Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level.
  • Have 4 Scottish Highers at B or above achieved by S6 (must include Maths and ideally two science subjects), OR have 3 A Levels at B or above (must include Maths and at least one Science subject), OR have a Higher National Certificate/Diploma at B or above in Computing, Software Development, or Computer Games Development (HNC/D applicants also need either Higher Maths at B or above or completion of the Maths Calculus and Matrices Module in the HNC/D programme).
  • The theoretical element is delivered by a Scottish university; candidates must be Scottish-based, or from the rest of the UK if they reside in Scotland from 1 August 2026.

Pay & Benefits

£22,950 per year. Benefits include a 35-hour working week, 25 days annual leave (26 days for BBC Studios), a defined pension scheme, and access to discounted dental, health care and gym. Apprentices receive an industry recognised qualification, training through the BBC Academy and learning providers, and may be considered for relocation support subject to qualifying criteria.
