Southampton Solent University STEM Taster Day

Southampton Solent University’s STEM Taster Day is an on-campus experience that gives students a chance to explore university-level STEM for themselves. The day takes place in specialist university facilities, including the SMART Centre, and introduces participants to practical, practice-led learning in a real higher education environment.

Students take part in hands-on workshops and activities drawn from areas such as mechanics, construction and fabrication, towing tanks and maritime simulation. The event also includes topics like applied robotics, land surveying, hydromechanics, kinematic simulation and chartwork, helping students see how STEM knowledge is used beyond the classroom and in real-world problem solving.

The taster day is designed for students interested in engineering, architecture, computing, technology and maritime. It aims to build confidence, develop technical and practical skills, and help participants understand how these subjects connect to future study and careers.

Group bookings are made by college tutors, and individual students who are not attending with a college group can contact the university directly.
