Tackle a live challenge inspired by Southampton’s former Toys 'R' Us site, then pitch your team’s proposal to judges. Explore how business, law and social ideas connect as you work with students across subjects to shape a realistic plan for the city space.
The Solent City Challenge is a hands-on taster day at Southampton Solent University for school and college students who want to explore how business, law and social ideas can be used to solve real-world problems. The event is built around a live challenge inspired by Southampton’s former Toys 'R' Us site, giving students the chance to think creatively about how a city space could be transformed for the future.
Supported by lecturers from the School of Business, Law and Society, students work in teams to tackle the challenge, develop ideas and learn how different disciplines connect. They begin with a briefing and a specialist session in their chosen subject area, before collaborating with students from other subjects to shape a realistic proposal.
Students then prepare a presentation and pitch their solution to judges, with an overall winner announced at the end of the day.
