SUES Friday Afternoon Talks 2026-27 is a programme of single-session public talks hosted by the Southport University Extension Society at All Saints Church Hall. The talks take place on Friday afternoons from 14:30 to 15:30 and are followed by refreshments, with time to socialise afterwards.
The series brings together a wide range of speakers and topics across history, local heritage, music, art, science and culture. Talks include subjects such as Queen Victoria, the history of Birkdale, Anne Geddes Gilchrist and folk song, George Herbert, astronomy and meteorology in Southport, Merseyside railways, Victorian painting, and the science behind magic.
The events are open to SUES members, and non-members who are considering joining the Society are welcome to attend one talk free of charge as a taster. The programme is designed for an audience interested in broad educational and cultural lectures rather than a single specialist subject.
